Om kunstneren

Mit navn er Vike Pedersen 1945.

Jeg har arbejdet med billedkunst siden 1963. Inspirationen får jeg fra byens pulserende liv.

Mine billeder har gennem årerne udviklet sig fra, at være meget abstrakte til nu at være en collage over de samme temaer. I dag er mine billeder udført i silketryk, efter egne fotos, og acryl på lærred.

Billederne kan ofte indeholde en lille historie, et tema, lidt poesi o.lign.

Om kunstneren Vike Pedersen`s billedunivers.

Hvad sker der, hvis man tager et puslespil, klipper det op i mindre dele og bagefter sætter delene sammen i vilkårlig rækkefølge?

Tjaeh, man kan ved første øjekast genkende enkelte motiver, men sammensætningen ligger så langt fra de velkendte centralperspektiviske spilleregler., Man står overfor et helt nyt billede.

Dette er i praksis, hvad Vike Pedersen gør, bortset fra, at sammensætningen ikke længere er vilkårlig, men yderst velovervejet. Så han ikke nøjes med ét, men mange forskellige billeder i collageform, som er den kunsthistoriske betegnelse for denne arbejdsmetode.

Et revolutionerende brud med klassiske komposotionsprincipper

I modernismens glansperiode lige før, under og efter 1. verdenskrig, var collagen et fuldstændigt revolutionerende brud med det 500 år gamle klassiske kompositionsprincip. Hvorefter alle billedets dele hænger logisk og harmonisk sammen, anskuet fra én og kun én central synsvinkel. Alt dette, vendte først Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque og Kurt Schwitters, senere surrealisterne. De ventede det fuldstændigt på hovedet og kunsthistorien har ikke været den samme siden.

Avantgarde og poetisk udtryk

Historisk set er Vike Pedersen´s kompositionsprincip altså yderst avantgardistisk. Men, især inspireret af Robert Rauschenbergs optimistiske, ikke-aggressive udgave af collagen.Han har fundet en måde at udtrykke sig på, som vel nærmest kan kaldes poetisk. Poetisk, forstået som hverdagspoetisk, for Vike Pedersen motivverden kredser omkring helt almindelige hverdagssituationer fra storbyen.

Fotografier starte ofte processen

Udgangspunktet er ofte et fotografi, som har fanget kunstneren via sin særlige stemning: en herrecykel, en sorthåret kvinde i casual solbrillecool mundering. Andre ting som rustne ukrudtsovergroede togskinner, en rendesten med en afløbsrist, et reklameskilt eller hvad der nu dukker op. De påkaldende sig opmærksomhed med sin særlige uforklarlige charme.

Disse fotografier bliver nu sat sammen, dels med andre fotografiske motiver, dels med menneskefigurer tegnet i ”frihånd” på et computerprogram, med farvelagte skabeloner af planteornamentik og med abstrakte farvefelter.

Nye overraskende kombinationer

Alt dette giver et rigt udbud af kombinationsmuligheder, som Vike Pedersen bruger på en disciplineret og præcis. Ikke desto mindre livsglad og fabulerende facon. Ikke ulig den måde, hvorpå lyrikere sætter ordkæder sammen i nye og overraskende kombinationer. Motiverne, det forelskede par, en foroverbøjet ældre mand, en pige siddende op ad en mur, to unge kvinder i samtale ved et gadehjørne. Alt dette sættes ind i stadigt varierende farvekombinationer, ornamentale mønstre og rumlige konstruktioner. Det medfører, at hvert enkelt billede har sin særlige virkning, sin egen atmosfære, sin egen tolkningsmulighed. På denne måde giver Vike Pedersen os en oplagt og befriende mulighed for at digte videre på motivet og bruge vores medskabende fantasi.

Vike Pedersen

Vike Pedersen has made art for at least 40 years, experimenting with a wide variety of media and techniques. From silkscreens to abstract painting and now combining silkscreens and acrylic on canvas to produce unique artwork.

His work is an attempt to share his own vision of the world with an audience and at times his works bring a touch of poetry to settle us in lyrical mood.

Vike has had many exhibitions at home and abroad and his works belong to private and public collections in Denmark, Italy, Switzerland and Germany.

Education dans la peinture et la sérigraphie.

J’ai travaillé avec les beaux-arts depuis 1963.

L’inspiration est venue de la nature et des hommes et de beaucoup d’états d’âmes, aussi bien en ville qu’à la campagne.

Au cours des années, mes tableaux se sont développés  de l’abstrait jusqu’au collage  des mêmes thèmes.

Les tableaux sont exécutés en sérigraphie ( à partir d’un travail de photos ) et acrylique pour les toiles.

Vous pouvez souvent introduire une petite histoire, un sujet, un peu de poésie ou similaire.

J’insiste beaucoup sur un travail honnête fait main dans l’exécution, et le résultat ne doit pas porter de caractère de hasard.

Au cours des années, j’ai participé à beaucoup d’expositions censurées, nationales comme locales.

Art historian Giulio Argan said that “since the beginning of the [20th] century there have been successive movements seeking to define what the specific function of art can, or should be, in contemporary society.”

Art allows us to be creative and free and Vike Pedersen is a living example of this creativity and freedom.

Each artist’s work is a journey by land, air or sea, using obvious or oblique gestures in an attempt to draw attention to his or her work.

Vike invites us..

With his use of diverse themes, Vike invites us on a journey through the transparent and opaque colours of his images, arresting our attention and making us stop for a closer look at his interpretation of the urban environment.

From Vike’s detailed illustrations and portrayals of old towns, to the large chaotic urbanizations sprawled across his canvases, he demonstrates that he is an urban artist, open-minded and free.

Through his modern designs and calculated techniques he shows himself as a romantic; a poet in the area of artistic silkscreen.

Photography is largely responsible for new silkscreen processes, for technological advances and for new concepts found in artistic movements from pop art to minimal art. But then the artist must impose himself on the image, and this Vike does, demonstrating his immense capacity for a lightness of touch and awareness of colour.

Vike masterfully conveys to his canvasses that which moves him most, refining details with acrylic colour to complement the luminosity of the screen printing inks.

It is without doubt that Vike, as an artist and a professional, succeeds in revealing a range of emotions whilst exemplifying modern values.

Because of his experience and maturity, Vike is able to propel the viewer through imagery loaded with strong and daring colours.

Technically, Vike is a Master, a critic of his own work, concerned with every detail within each canvas.

Vike Pedersen is an experienced artist who has obtained noteworthy and unique pictorial results in painting, serigraphy and photography. As variegated jigsaw puzzles investigating the present, the works of this Danish painter are sophisticated compositions of different elements depicting social moments and urban or natural views.

The several techniques mastered by Pedersen, but also the subjects, people and places he selects, make his works the intriguing and modern mirrors of a fragmentary and composite contemporary  time. Pedersen’s acrylic paintings on canvas mixed with silkscreen are the result of over forty years of committed and accurate work, which he started in 1963, when he was only eighteen.

From his debut as an abstract painter, he came with time to describe situations in a different, more figurative and contaminated, more complex way. It is not like everyone to keep oneself up-to-date in painting: often artists cling to one style, one method, and do

not experiment enough. The best aspect of this singular image investigator is that he has elaborated a poetic which is consistent with the passing of time, always referring in his compositions to the world we live in.

He steps into urban sceneries and contaminates them, making them with human traces: a fascinating choice that occurs dynamically. His works convey the sense of life flowing outside the walls of buildings, in the streets, and is the result of many things: numbers, words and characters alternate with picture and colours.

The black and white is broken up by colour in these tableaux, in a multifarious swing of meanings and semblance, and – above all – in a choral sense of play, irony and cheerfulness. A work by Vike Pedersen arouses curiosity, it encourages sharing and also smiling.
